One Room at a time...Wait, 15 min at a time...

So, I had these big plans to spend one day each week organizing one room in my house.  In this dream, within 100 days, my house would be the pillar of organization, and I would no longer come home from work everyday and think, 'Ugh, my house is disgusting!  Let's buy a new one so I can start over.'

Over the next 100 days, I spent 2 days organizing.  And as if they could, things actually got worse.  I don't know if I thought I was SuperWoman, but having a 2 year old, a 1 year old, working full time, and traveling every other weekend left me feeling overwhelmed and disappointed in myself for not accomplishing my goals.  How do these other woman do it!  By the time I fixed one area and moved on to the next, the first would be completely sabotaged by my well-meaning husband, my toddler and soon to be toddler, or, of course, by a tired and un-SuperWomanly me.

Lightbulb moment!  Your goals are too lofty! Choose something manageable for everyday, so that you can feel like SuperMommyWoman when you accomplish your goal!  Hence, the new goal---spend 15 minutes (uninterrupted) organizing something everyday.

The uninterrupted became a bit of a challenge with two little hoodlums running around.  But that's okay, said my SuperMommyWoman psyche; just watch the clock and make sure at least 15 minutes is spent organizing, even if it's 3 minutes intervals 5 times a day.

So here is my list of spaces to conquer over the next year (I know that sounds like a long time, but remember, slow and steady wins the race.) and in no particular order...more of what I feel like that day:

  • Master Closet
  • Playroom
  • Master Bath Under the Sink
  • Chest at the end of the bed
  • Old Maternity Clothes
  • Linen Closet
  • Boy #1 Closet
  • Craft Items (where should they go!)
  • Underneath the stairs
  • Guest Bathroom Under the Sink
  • Guest Bathroom Medicine Cabinet
  • Office Space
  • Bookshelves by Craft/Office Area
  • Coat Closet
  • Laundry Room
  • 1/2 Bath Under Sink
  • Entertainment Center
  • Pseudo Pantry (we don't have a pantry, isn't that crazy...hence the 'new house' thought always coming up.  But!  I think if I can accomplish this, I won't want to move! Am I right?)
  • Kitchen Cabinets
  • Kitchen Drawers
  • Above the Kitchen Cabinet Space
  • Above the Refrigerator
  • The Refrigerator
  • The Freezer
  • Under the Kitchen Sink
  • Kitchen Countertops
  • Kitchen Island Countertop Space Cleared
  • Shelves by the Back Door
  • Garage
  • Outside Toys

I implore you, if so motivated by my lovely blog, to make your own list!  Maybe we can keep each other motivated with 'organization-sprinkle-dust-woman-power' or whatever...
